From the back of the package:
"Tatting is the technique of forming lace designs of loops, rings and picots by means of a shuttle and thread. With a little time and patience, you can create designs that can be used on pillowcases, tablecloths, napkins, placemats and blouse collars. Tatting is sometimes called "the poor man's lace" because it requires very little outlay for materials or tools, yet produces beautiful and decorative effects. Complete instructions are included."
